For the first time, Caleb & Coby went trick or treating... real trick or treating where you walk door to door, knock and yell "trick or treat", where they anxiously await what will be dropped into their buckets. Up until this year we have been going to Fall Festivals, which is becoming the popular thing, which was evidenced by how many porch lights were NOT on. We walked 3 entire blocks, and probably stopped at maybe 10-12 houses total, which was only about 25% of the houses on the 3 blocks. When did the world get so bad that we can't have regular trick or treating anymore?
Caleb was Superman, and Coby was Spiderman. They thoroughly enjoyed real trick or treating, running from house to house, getting candy that they will not be eating... most of it will be going to work with me. There was a group of about 20of us... parents and children... mostly relatives. Let me list who all was with us...
Me, Caleb, Coby
Tabatha, Chris, Jameshia, Debo
Kim, Kieara, JaShay
Debra (Reco's sister) and her 4 kids (sorry can't remember all their names)
Tonio, Ciera, and 4 others that I didn't know (friends of Tabatha's)
We started at Mimi's house, walked up 2 blocks to the school, went over 1 block to where the infamous "scary house" was. Since we've never been trick or treating, we knew nothing about what the other big kids were talking about. But we soon found out. On that 3rd block, there was a house decorated with spider webs and a few Halloween things (nothing extraordinary). There was a lady standing out in front with the candy, dressed in a long white gown, talking real quietly and sweet (almost eerily). Now the big kids were in front and when they got up to the lady to get their treats, someone jumps out of the bushes, which sent them screaming and running. Well the smaller kids (mine included) who weren't even close enough to see "what" jumped out, went running and screaming and crying. Now... why, if the big kids KNEW this was going to happen... why didn't they forewarn us? That was really not fair to the little kids because they were scared beyond belief. Caleb, Coby and Tonio were ready to go back to Mimi's after that incident, in which I obliged and took them back. They were tired by this point too (no naps today), so I was more than happy to get them back. Funny thing (after the fact) was that the little kids never saw what it was that sent everyone running and screaming. They "heard" someone making scary noises, which I guess them running and screaming and hearing the scary noises was enough to scare them. Had they forewarned us of the impending "scare", I could have prepared the boys and they may have been ok with it.
